How To Start Your Skincare Routine

Whether you are new to the skincare game or a seasoned veteran, it’s always good to shake things up to keep your skin in winning form. Here are our top tips on how to jumpstart your skincare routine.

First things first, find out what kind of skin you have.

Do you have a dehydrated skin? Or perhaps you have an oily T-Zone? The best way to diagnose your skin type is to visit your dermatologist or a highly skilled aesthetician, they will be able to tell you exactly what is going on with your skin, what you are prone to, and what products will help you. It is a relatively quick procedure and completely non-invasive. You will be asked a few questions about how your skin feels, and what products you currently use. All in all, it shouldn’t take longer than thirty minutes.

Now that you know your skin type, it’s time to invest in some key products. A cleanser and moisturiser is a good place to start if you are new to the skincare game. Once you are in the habit of using these daily, you can start to introduce more advanced products like exfoliators.

Although products do most of the legwork, it is important to take a look at your lifestyle if there is anything specific about your skin that you are concerned about. If you suffer from constant breakouts, perhaps your diet needs some tweaking. Also consider how much water you are taking in each day, if your skin is chronically dehydrated, often part of the problem is not drinking enough water. As always, its always advised to seek advice from an aesthetician or dermatologist if the problem persists.

If you already have a skincare routine but you just feel like you aren’t getting the desired results anymore, it’s probably time to mix things up. One of the best ways to do that is to incorporate a serum. These are super concentrated products that are made specifically for different skincare concerns. You can either add some to your moisturiser or apply it to your face neat and it is guaranteed to make a huge difference to your skin.

There are many different serums on the market but two of the most popular are ones that contain hyaluronic acid and vitamin A. If you have a more dehydrated skin, you will enjoy the hyaluronic acid while vitamin A is brilliant for pigmentation as well as anti-ageing.

If you have facial hair, don’t ignore it! You’d be surprised how much difference a well maintained beard can make to your skin. Using nourishing products that will keep the hair soft, but not make your skin oily is one of the best decisions you can make. Not only will your skin stop breaking out, but you will look a lot more groomed when you start using quality products.

Make sure to have a look at the ingredients of your aftershave, shaving medium and cologne. If they contain alcohol, rather give them a skip. Alcohol can cause terrible irritation and redness on the skin so definitely make a note to opt for alcohol-free products, especially if you have a sensitive skin.
